who is paypal

Those who depend on PayPal may be left behind

Anyone who uses PayPal may already have had trouble with the company. Either because deposited money has been „frozen“ or because there are constant attempts to obtain personal data. Double debits, no login possible, account restrictions. The list of annoyances on PayPal is long and goes as far as account blocking of disagreeable customers, especially if they appear as alternative media and are supported by their readers.

Who really is Paypal?

Here in Europe, especially in Germany, PayPal is very popular and widely used. First and foremost out of convenience, because everyone uses it. But what lies behind the company, whose co-founder is the freedom-loving Elon Musk, sounds rather questionable. Because what has long been known in America is still pretty dark in Europe. Paypal cooperates with political groups, which can be found on the left of the guideline. That in itself would not be a problem at all. Everyone should believe in what they want. But if a financial service provider triggers restrictions or even blocks or freezes accounts for undisclosed reasons, independence is over.

To understand what is happening, as is often the case, you have to dig a little deeper. Already last year, I became aware of a note from overseas saying that Paypal was working with left-wing organisations. After this research, I put my PayPal account on hold.

What do Silicon Valley, tech giants and Paypal have in common?

In Silicon Valley, the big tech giants have joined forces to form the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). This has the aim of checking the content of websites, controlling and ultimately also deciding (at least in part) what people are allowed to read, what content they read and whether they financially support their independent media.

Then last year it became known that this partnership was expanding to the left. Because Google also entered into this cooperation via an inconspicuous diversions. Accordingly, the ADL is working with a British company Moonshot CVE. This in turn directs internet users away from websites that allegedly promote „violent extremism“. As we already know, the lines and definitions of hate, opinion, man and woman have completely shifted so that theoretically anyone can have extremist traits.

But what is more interesting is that it was PayPal that asked ADL to define criteria that would be considered „extremist“. This classification was the basis for subsequent steps in payment transactions, namely when Paypal closes customer accounts and has secured this right via amended GTCs.

Who is ADL?

ADL has been known in America for some time. As an organisation dedicated to combating anti-Semitism and upholding basic civil rights principles, this may not seem alarming on the surface. Through several detours, such as Jonathan Greenblatt, who was part of the progressive movement’s arm of Team Obama, ADL developed into a bitter enemy of the conservatives.

According to Fox News, „The Center for Security Policy raised concerns about the company in an article last month (July 2021), highlighting that Moonshot CVE’s executive director, Vidhya Ramalingam, served as an executive in the Obama Foundation’s Europe programme.

Let’s not get it wrong. Non-profit work for women, for human rights etc. has its justification and is good. What is alarming, however, is the state of affairs that as soon as a George Soros interferes and financially „supports“, he makes such organisations his own in order to form his world view.

She has links to other left-leaning organisations and has written a paper confirming financial support from the Open Society Foundation (to the ADL).“ So here we are again. Invisible swords that have been wielded in the US for decades and are also active around the world to influence policy. And Soros no secret about it. „English bank cracked“, „Fall of the Berlin Wall triggered“ are just two of his well-known statements boasting of having helped shape European and global politics.

The problem with the Paypal – ADL story is the lack of transparency.

Google executives questioned at a congressional hearing had no explanation the algorithms used to identify extremist hate websites. Moonshot and the ADL have also refused to comment on this. No one involved in this programme is willing to talk about details of the algorithms used.

The partnership between PayPal and the ADL still has one more step to take. That’s because under the programme, the ADL helps PayPal deny service to financial networks that the ADL believes support „extremism and hate“ or endanger „vulnerable communities“. Again, the ADL does not say how it will make its decisions. One does not have to have sympathy for extremists nor political views to understand that there is a risk of global arbitrariness here. What is shameful about this is that it is those who want to defend democracy and freedom who, by implication, may turn out to be a greater threat to liberal thought.
